Named after Saint Cataldo, the town of San Cataldo sits nestled
in the hills of Central Sicily. San Cataldo has a population of
over 23,000 and is well known for the architecture of it's churches
and it's agriculture. Outstanding monuments in the town include
the Chiesa Madre and the Chiesa dei Padri Mercedari. Every year
on August 29, the "Sfilata con l'Alloro"
(laurel parade) is held. This event features groups of cavaliers
marching in procession carrying a small branch of laurels to honor
their Patron Saint.
